“to be continued…”

is a community art exhibit featuring bookmarks made by local artists. You, dear reader, are invited to participate.

ALL PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT FRIENDS OF WADSWORTH LIBRARY
ON DISPLAY JULY & AUGUST 2026

about the show

This summer, we're inviting artists of all ages and abilities to create bookmarks to benefit our local library. Each bookmark submitted will be lovingly fitted into a vinyl bookmark sleeve, tied with a matching tassel, and sold for $10 through the months of July and August 2026. All proceeds will be donated to Friends of Wadsworth Library, who work to fund and enhance library services.

To participate in this show, all you need is a love for the library and a desire to make something with your hands and your heart. And romanticizing the idea that a neighbor might carry around your art in their favorite book all year will help too.

Also, we have a little form for you to fill out, sorry.

how it works

  • You make a bookmark

(or two, or three, or ten, as many as you want!)

Create an original 2 3/8” x 7” bookmark. [See diagrams below]. Your artwork can be on both sides of the bookmark, or you can use the back to write a little note to the bookworm who buys it, or a little about yourself, or write a favorite quote or poem or anything you want!

  • You bring or send your bookmark(s) to us

Drop your bookmark(s) off at The Gallery during our open hours, pop your bookmark(s) in the mail to us, or send a digital file and we'll print your bookmark(s) on quality cardstock and trim to size. Get them to us by Friday, June 26, 2026.

  • We apply the finishing touches

Once we have your bookmark, we'll lovingly place it in a protective vinyl sleeve and attach a tassel, chosen to complement your work. You can also make your own tassel or help us choose one from our stash when you drop off!

  • We install the display

In early July, your bookmark(s) join a sea of other unique bookmarks on our front visiting artist wall for the summer, available for anyone to take home for $10. All proceeds will be donated to Friends of Wadsworth Library at the end of August.

  • Together we celebrate!

We’ll celebrate the show with an opening art party on Friday, July 10th, 2026 from 6-8pm. Bring your friends and family and favorite avid readers out to see your beautiful work amongst the other tiny works of art. The Geneseo Summer Festival will also be happening that same night!

why are we doing this?

Great question, here are several reasons:

1/ To create an easy stress-free opportunity for local folks to crack out their art supplies and spend some time making a small piece of artwork

2/ To create a moment of connection between an artist and a bookmark purchaser, reminding us all that these little connections between us are the very fabric of our small communities

3/ To support our local library that provides us all access to knowledge, media, and vital resources that build and strengthen a healthy community

4/ To encourage an appreciation of art and literature made for and by humans

frequently asked questions

Do I have to be a professional artist to participate?

Heck no!!! This show is open to humans of all ages and abilities. If you want to make something, you're invited. We do hope that you’ll spend some time and intention on it and create something that you’re very proud of!

Is there a submission fee?

Nah, dude.

What materials can I use?

Whatever your beautiful creative heart desires…watercolor, collage, ink, colored pencil, embroidery, you name it. As long as it is thin enough to fit in the vinyl sleeve and meets the guidelines (original, human-made, appropriate for all ages), it's welcome! Also, try to make sure it won’t smudge when we fit it into the vinyl sleeve.

What size does my bookmark need to be?

Your bookmark should be 2 3/8” wide x 7” tall. We can help trim your work to size if needed, and if you're submitting digitally, just send your file, cropped to 2 3/8” x 7” at 300 dpi and we'll print and trim it for you. Also, pro tip, if you’re like really sweet and nice and charming, you can stop by The Gallery and we’ll GIVE you a piece of cardstock cut exactly to the right size.

Can I make a totally different style bookmark that doesn’t fit in a vinyl sleeve?

Ohhhh, I like you, you little rebel. Totally, but let’s talk about it first - shoot us an email at thewalterscc@gmail.com or drop by The Gallery during our open hours to pitch your idea!

Do I have to live in Geneseo to participate?

Nope! We welcome submissions from anyone, anywhere. Just pop your bookmark(s) in the mail to The Gallery at 79 Main Street, Geneseo, NY or send a digital file our way.

Do I get paid if my bookmark sells?

We fully and emphatically believe that artists should be paid for their work, time, and talents. But this show is a little different. It's a community-driven fundraiser for a library that gives so much to all of us, and every dollar from bookmark sales goes directly to Friends of Wadsworth Library. Submitting your work is your generous gift to that cause, and we're truly grateful for it.

Is there a limit to how many bookmarks I can submit?

I mean, technically no, but let’s say…20 is probably a good cutoff. I can imagine some painters painting one big painting and then chopping it up into several bookmarks, how cool would that be?

What happens to bookmarks that don't sell?

Unsold bookmarks can be retrieved from The Gallery after the show closes at the end of August. We'll be in touch! Literally the worst thing that can happen to you in this show is that you make a bookmark, submit it, no one buys it, and you get it back, with a protective vinyl sleeve and tassel for free!

I have a question that isn't answered here. Who do I contact?

We’re SO happy to answer questions. You’ve got a few ways to contact us: You can call or text Joanna at 585-943-7261, message us on Instagram (@thegalleryinthevalley) or send an email to thewalterscc@gmail.com.
